After staffing changes at the beginning of the year, Joseph got a new teacher and principal. That started all the new issues. From the first time I met them I knew something was off. The principal acted like a car salesman when you walk on the car lot. With her fake smile and overly cheery disposition, my stomach became queezy just responding to her. Then walking into Joseph's classroom was jaw dropping. Class was supposed to start the next day but the walls were bar and it seemed very cold in there. No color anywhere and no where for this kids to reset or get any sensory imput at all. The teacher finally came over to meet us but immediately got in Joseph's personal space upsetting him. She just didn't connect with him or us at all. That started the school year and it just seemed to get worse from there.
She is very disorganized and never gets back to me unless I request something several times. Joseph tried running from the classroom several times and started exhibiting increased anxiety and stress causing increased seizures. He was regressing in his academics and his negative behaviors increased actually causing him to break a window with his head one time.
Last week, while Joseph was home recovering from pneumonia,we found out his one on one Paraeducator quoted reportedly because she could no longer work with the teacher. That is when it got really bad. Evidentially by the next week when I was going to send him back another para left and a few days later another did.
I never did send him back because I was concerned about the staffing and the fact that there was obvious tension in the classroom. After talking with other parents, we all felt the same way. A handful of us are requesting transfers as the classroom is no longer a good fit for our children and I for one am also filing a formal complaint against the teacher. She makes it very difficult to learn in that classroom and should not be teaching in that room in my opinion.
We have been in touch with someone in the district and should have Joseph in a new classroom after the mid winter break. Until then he will stay home with us.
